Viviary is a diary app. This policy explains what happens to the things you write and add to it. The short version: your diary stays on your device or in your own iCloud account, and we never receive it.
1. Your diary
Entries, photos, videos, voice notes, tags and settings are stored on your device. Viviary has no account system and no server that stores diary content. We cannot see, read or recover your entries.
iCloud Sync and iCloud Backup (optional): if you turn these on, your entries and media are stored in your own iCloud account (iCloud private database and iCloud Drive) so they can sync between your devices and be restored later. This storage is provided by Apple and governed byApple's Privacy Policy. We have no access to it.
App Lock and Private Space: your PIN is stored as a salted hash in the device keychain. Face ID and Touch ID are handled by iOS; Viviary never receives biometric data.
2. Location and weather
When you write a new entry, Viviary can add the place and current weather. This uses your location only while the app is in use and only if you allow it.
- The place name is looked up through Apple's geocoding service.
- For the weather, an approximate location (rounded to about 1 km) is sent toOpen-Meteo, a free weather service. The request contains no identifier for you or your device, and Viviary does not store it anywhere except in the entry itself.
- For photos and videos you add, the capture date and place stored in the file are read on your device and shown in the entry.
3. Voice notes
Voice notes are recorded and stored on your device. Turning a voice note into text uses Apple's speech recognition. When your device supports it, this happens entirely on the device; otherwise the audio is processed by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy.
4. Purchases
Subscriptions and the one-time purchase are handled by the App Store. We do not receive your payment details. Viviary only checks on the device whether you own Premium.
5. Analytics, ads and tracking
Viviary contains no analytics, no advertising and no tracking code, and it does not share data with data brokers.
6. Feedback
If you send feedback from the app, it opens your email app. We receive only what you choose to send, usually your email address, your message and the app and iOS version added to the email. We use it only to reply to you.
7. Your control
- Export: export all entries as Markdown, together with your photos and other media, at any time.
- Delete: delete any entry in the app. Deleting the app removes its data from the device; data in your iCloud account can be removed in the iOS Settings app under your Apple Account and iCloud.
- Permissions: location, camera, photos, microphone, speech recognition and notifications can be turned off at any time in the iOS Settings app.
8. Children
Viviary is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
